FG Must Publish Details Of Covid Vaccination, Transportation Fund, Says SERAP

The Socio-Economic Rights And Accountability Project has said the Federal Government must publish details of the fund it said would help in vaccinating Nigerians against COVID-19.

The Federal Government, through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, has budgeted the sum of N10.6bn to transport the COVID-19 vaccine to the 36 states and the 774 local government areas as well as the Federal Capital Territory and the five area councils of Nigeria.

Reacting to the budget, SERAP advised that it should be executed with transparency and accountability because it is of public interest.

In a tweet, the organisation said, “COVID-19: Spending of N400bn to vaccinate Nigerians and N10.6bn on transportation is a public interest issue. It’s a transparency and accountability issue. It’s a human rights issue. It’s a public health issue. Federal Government @NigeriaGov: Publish details including online.”

Nigeria, on Tuesday, received nearly four million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines through the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Assess Facility popularity known as COVAX.

A medical doctor, Dr. Cyprian Ngong, of the National Hospital, Abuja, was the first person to receive a jab of the vaccine in Nigeria.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo both had their jab today in Abuja.
